In 1909 Alexander Cowie used his most rare and special aged stock to create his own private release - a whisky he called Cowie's Blue Seal, a symbol representing the utmost quality. The barrels he chose were what he considered the best of the best-the select few among the brilliant Mortlach reserves - these were the stocks he deemed worthy of the 'Blue Seal'. Today, we've resurrected the symbol of the Blue Seal to mark our 20 year old release. This rich and beautiful single malt whisky is made from the barrels deemed to be of exceptional quality from the Mortlach reserves. A combination of Refill Casks with ex-Sherry casks allows the rich, robust spirit of the beast of Dufftown to come through, while growing in complexity and mellowing over 20 years to an elegant, balanced combination of pepper and cinnamon spice with smooth, mellow vanilla oak.

On a rare autumn night at Oban bay, the shimmering lights of the Aurora Borealis illuminate this quaint coastal town and its namesake distillery. One of the oldest and smallest distilleries in Scotland, in 1794 Oban rose, bringing an electric vibrancy to the quiet surroundings. Small as it may be, its mythical nature has been written in the stars for centuries. Maturation in refill and new American Oak, then double maturation in ex-Sherry & Amontillado seasoned casks, brings a mild nose with maritime salt and sea air. The creamy texture introduces a taste rich in sweet hints of wine-poached spiced plum, balanced by vibrant salt and spice, before finishing as chilli pepper. Rich, sticky sweetness sparkles through light smoke and salt, in an Oban of super-natural character.

An original Oban from non-traditional casks that has a great deal to say for itself as it skilfully entwines the lighter and darker traits of this famous bridge between the Highland and Island styles of single malt. The Oban 12YO sweet natured Scotch stirs bright eyed, nose keen with smooth, sweet chilli. Maritime aromas offer contrast with seaweed, crystal salt and black pepper. Lightly oily, it soon shades the palate with a pinch of spice from fresh charred casks. A bustling seaside resort has grown up around the distillery in the two centuries since it was first built in the fishing town of Oban. The West Highland malt is still produced in the same unhurried, traditional fashion and this 14 year old is a classic dram from the distillery.
